Homemade Glimmer mist

I've discovered that I don't have to pay full price for glimmer mists for my projects. Yay!!!   I ran across a video on youtube about making your own.   I watched every video I could find on the subject.  Most said to use water.  Some said use glue or hairspray.  Some said you don't need it.  After watching several of these videos (and a bit of trial and error), using only things that I had already I made a very nice shimmery white pearl mist.

Things I used...
~ 1 cheap mist bottle (from the travel sized section in the health and beauty aid section at WM. $.99)
~ 1 tablespoon (or about) Folk Art Metallic Pearl White acrylic paint
~ about 4 ounces of rubbing alcohol

From watching the videos I found that the only time you have to use glue (like mod podge) is when you are adding shimmery powders to your mist because the powders or glitters need a bonding agent or they'll rub off your paper.  When using an acrylic paint you don't need it because the paint already contains a bonding agent.  I also discovered that using rubbing alcohol instead of water allows for a quicker dry time and less warping of the paper.

I hope this helps you in your quest for happy scrapping!

  1. I'm going to give this a try, as I don't have any mists. There is not a scrapbook store anywhere near me for 40+ miles, so I love tips for things I might be able to make myself! Thanks for posting it! Love Penny

  2. I had heard to this before, but wasn't sure about trying it...however, a friend of mine made her own with glittery eye shadow! Since I already have acrylic paint, I may try this! Thanks for sharing!
